History

I receive a lot of inquiries about how My Consultant's Corner got started and what my involvement is with The Pampered Chef®, so here is my history.

In 2000, I started a home based business offering website design and marketing services.  I worked alone out of my house, occasionally sourcing projects out to other friends in the field over the internet.  As my business slowly grew, I decided to fall back on my formal training as a chef and start a lunch catering business serving my husband and his co-workers.  As a result, I got to know several of his co-workers very well.

One day I received an invitation in the mail from one of Chris' co-workers, inviting me to a Pampered Chef® Kitchen Party.  I laughed out loud.  The host was not only one of my lunch clients, but I also knew she had moved recently and her new home did not have a stove - which wasn't a problem for her because she didn't cook anything outside of microwave meals. Still, I went to the party to support my friend and to see what this "Pampered Chef®" thing was all about.  I'd never heard of the company.

I attended the party and had a great time.  I grilled the consultant with questions about the products - making sure anything I bought was going to be able to hold up to my abuse and high standards.  Peggy answered almost every question, and followed up with me later on those she needed to reference.  She suggested that with my background I'd make a great consultant.

Nope!  I wasn't going to be recruited!  Sure, I'd attended culinary school and owned an online marketing company, but what did I know about direct sales?  I wasn't even going to have a party!

I received another invitation in the mail about a month later.  A mutual friend had booked a show with Peggy.  By now I had received my products - was using them and LOVED them.  I was happy to go to another party!

This time Peggy emphasized all of the benefits of hosting a show.  I was hooked.  FREE kitchen products just for having my friends over?  Sold.  I booked my show and Peggy handed my a host packet right there on the spot.  Again, she suggested I consider consulting, and included recruiting information in my host packet.

By the time Peggy called me for the first host coaching call I had worked up a list questions.  I interviewed her regarding The Pampered Chef®.  She answered everything and explained how WE could use my show to launch my Pampered Chef business.

I slept on it.  I talked to my husband about it.  I slept on it some more.

I called Peggy. I wanted to become a consultant.  We used my party to fulfill my initial bookings requirement and I attended the very next Team Meeting.  At that meeting, I met Peggy's director, Dot, saw all the support and training I would receive, and signed my agreement.

I loved my business, and worked creatively to build it.  It grew.

Eventually my son started coming home from daycare with colds & flues to share.  When I found myself rescheduling shows at the last second due to family illnesses, I chose to retire.  I didn't feel that it was fair to my family or my hosts/guests to continue this manic pattern.  Reluctantly, I went inactive and dedicated that time to my other business and family.

Months later, I came across mounds of my left over consultant supplies, notes, files etc., as well as all the material I had developed for my business.  I wasn't ready to auction it all off, in hopes that I might reactivate my business, but I knew some of it would be useful to others.

I poured over my materials and created a "Tool Box" of useful materials.  I also pulled together my newsletter and theme party files, and listed these three information packets on eBay.  The response was overwhelming!  Consultants from all over wanted to know if I would be willing to provide them with a newsletter service.  Others begged for more ideas, techniques and information.  I quickly developed Tool Box 2 and started my newsletter service.  And still it grew.

More than a year later, I decided to start this website.  My intention is for it to serve as a resource for all of my clients, as well as to build community among consultants who otherwise cannot attend regular training and team meetings.

I hope my ideas, information and files inspire you and supply you with the tools to make your business a SUCCESS!
